Week 26 – Don’t Discover- DECIDE!

decide“The deepest secret is that life is not a process of discovery, but a process of creation. You are not discovering yourself, but creating yourself anew. Seek therefore, not to find out Who You Are, but seek to determine Who You Want to Be.” Neale Donald Walsch

When I first read this quote, I was so intrigued by the concept, that I was never the same person again. I realized that for most of my life, up to that point, I’d been assuming that life was a process of discovery, discovering who I was, and discovering my purpose. I used to feel that for the most part who and what you were was a constant. I used to subscribe to the notion that I was who I was; and that via my genetics, the month I was born in, and the way I was raised, had all made the decision for me as to what I was as a person. Not to mention, those around me who had also provided their assessment of who they thought I was as well. I settled on misperceived fact that this make-up of who I had mentally constructed myself to be was simply something I would have to shape my life around.

Along my journey however, I realized that this whole concept was a false premise. It was garbage! I realized that I can be who and what I choose to be. I am the main determining factor as to what I am. I can choose. If I don’t like who I am or have become, I only need make another decision, and choose differently for myself. I decided I would no longer listen to any government study, any psychological profile, friends nor well-meaning family members, or even my own inner limiting and negative conversations, as to who I was and what I was going to be.

Life is about CREATION! Creating yourself the person you wish to be predominantly by focusing your thoughts. Life is about making a conscious and deliberate decision as to who and what you wish to be. It’s not about discovering who you are but rather deciding who you are.

So who are you? What do you wish to be, do, or have right now?? You have the ability, power, and capacity to choose.  How does it work? How do you go from who you are today to who you wish to be?

First, you must have desire! You can make no significant, deliberate change without first having the desire to do so. Desire can trump just about any barrier to achieving what you want. But, it depends heavily on how strong your desire is. The stronger the desire, the more apt you are to manifest what you want quicker. If you kind of want something, but can live without it, you probably will live without it. But if your desire is so strong that you must do or have this transformation, as long as you follow some other key components, you will achieve what you want.

Second, is the realization and the belief that you can transform your life. It can happen in an instant, or it can take as long as you allow it to with your beliefs about the subject. Some people stop smoking cold turkey- just up and quit in one day while others go through the process of weening themselves off. It’s all up to you. The point is realizing and believing you can be who you wish to be. And just because you are who you think you are today, you can be whomever you wish to be tomorrow, if you so desire. We mentioned in previous blogs how to disengage from limiting beliefs. Realize this- A belief is simply a thought that you keep thinking over and over again, and have held in your mind long enough that it is now real. So, you can replace limiting thoughts and beliefs by thinking new ones. This is what is one of the meanings in the scripture when it says, And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind You renew who you are as a person by renewing your mind. You renew your mind by practicing self-empowering thoughts.

Third is imagination! This is without question, the most overlooked, under-rated super powers of creation. Imagination is, in my opinion, crucial as one of the cornerstones of manifestation. Imagine yourself being and acting in the light of the person you wish to be. Get a real feel for who and what this new individual is. Creation begins in the mind. Imagination gives the mind the mental construct and framework from which to work with. Forget about who you used to be. Let go even of who you think you are today. Focus only on who and what you wish to be NOW! Assume a new identity today of the person you wish to be!

As children we unknowingly played a very powerful game. The game of make believe. Imitating and emulating that person we wished to be. We would dress up in the garb of those we wished to be like and act in the way we thought that person who act. Some played police officers, and firemen, some played football players, some nurses, while others played house :). We were for all intents and purposes creating ourselves through our imagination.

When we choose to IMAGINE WITH FULL CONVICTION, knowing that on some level of reality IT IS ALREADY DONE – and hold firm to that thought and belief- that is when the magic happens and things start to move for us, and towards us. Your own wonderful human imagination is the actual creative power of God within you! We will dive deeper into this in future posts and ways to cultivate imagination and practical ways to enhance this skill and power.

Fourth, decide! Determine and decide who you want to be. This week think clearly about who you want to be. As you go through your day and experience emotions that trigger unwanted, undesired responses, ask yourself right then and there why I am I feeling this and is this the person I wish to be. If the answer is no, then decide something different right then, right at that moment. Don’t wait. Make a conscious and deliberate choice right there; I do not desire to be this person, I would rather be this. And be that! Decide to be who and what it is your desire to be.
